Yakima County Arrest Records Search
Yakima County arrest records are available through the county jail's public roster and inmate search tools, with additional access options at courthouse terminals and the regional library. This page covers how to search current and past bookings, request copies of records, and understand what information is public under Washington law.
Yakima County Overview
Yakima County Inmate Search
The Yakima County inmate search tool gives access to the current jail roster and basic booking data. The jail is located at 111 North Front Street, Yakima, WA 98901. Phone is 509-574-1700. You can also call that number directly to inquire about a specific individual if you have their full name and date of birth.
The public roster makes several categories of information available: the current roster of who is in custody, basic booking data, charges at the time of arrest, bail and bond amounts, expected release date, and the facility location within the jail system. That is enough to confirm whether someone is in custody and understand the basic reason they are being held.
Some records are exempt from public release even through the inmate search. Medical and mental health information is not public. Personal identifying details beyond basic demographics are withheld. Disciplinary records, security classification, victim and witness identities, and juvenile records are also kept confidential. If you are looking for information beyond what the roster shows, you will need to go through the formal records request process.
Yakima County Jail Records
The Yakima County Jail Records page explains the county's release policy in detail. The publicly available jail roster contains inmate information that the county releases under Washington law. Most other records held by the jail are confidential under RCW 70.48.100.
To request non-medical records that are not on the public roster, you need to complete the county's Authorization for Release of Inmate Records form. This applies to things like booking photos and detailed internal records. The form is available from the jail and must be signed by the inmate or submitted with proper legal authority.
For medical records, there is a separate form: the Authorization for Use and Disclosure of Health Care Information. Alternatively, medical records can be released under a court order. Faxing your completed authorization to the jail is one option; the jail staff can tell you where to send it when you call at 509-574-1700.
Booking photos, commonly called mugshots, are confidential by default in Yakima County under RCW 70.48.100. They are not included in the public roster. This is consistent with Washington state policy at most county jails. If you need a booking photo for a specific legal purpose, a court order is the most reliable path.
Yakima County Arrest Records
The Yakima County arrest records page covers access through both the Sheriff's Office and the Police Department. These are two separate agencies, each maintaining records for their own jurisdiction. If you are not sure which agency made the arrest, you may need to check with both.
The Sheriff's Office is at 1822 S 1st Street, Yakima, WA 98901. Phone is (509) 574-2500. Office hours are Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The Police Department is at 200 S 3rd Street, Yakima, WA 98901. Phone is (509) 575-6200. Hours are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Both agencies handle public records requests for their respective arrest records.
Copy fees are $0.15 per page for standard records. Certified records cost between $5 and $15 depending on the type. Under RCW 42.56.520, agencies must respond within five business days. They can request more time for large or complex requests, but they must give you written notice and an estimated timeline.
Free Public Access Terminals
Yakima County provides free in-person access to public records through two locations. The first is the public access terminal at the Yakima County Courthouse law library, located at 128 N 2nd Street, Room 100, Yakima. No appointment is needed; you can walk in during courthouse hours and use the terminal to search records at no cost.
The second free option is the Yakima Valley Regional Library. Library patrons can use public computers to access online databases and state court records portals. This is a good option if the courthouse terminal is busy or if you are not in the downtown area. Library staff may be able to help you get started with a search, though they are not legal advisors.
For statewide searches, the Washington Courts case search is free and searchable online. It covers court case history across the state, including case filings, dispositions, and scheduled hearings. This is different from jail records; it shows what happened in court rather than what happened at booking.
VINELink is also available for victim notification. If you need to track when someone is released from custody, VINELink lets you register for automated alerts. It is free to use and covers facilities statewide.
